Economic Development

The Town welcomes your business and strives to make the process of operating in Lexington as simple as possible. The economic development department is here to guide and assist business in Lexington. The department will streamline the permit process for redevelopment or development projects. The Economic Development Director develops, coordinates and implements strategies to retain and expand business and together with staff is liaison and a resource to organizations engaged in economic development.

Presently the department engages in a business visitation program to understand the needs and factors which effect stability and growth of our businesses.

Additionally Lexington offers other tools to assist the expansion of business and provide opportunities for new investment and development:

The Development Review Team , comprised of all land use regulatory departments, meets monthly to provide review of development proposals. The Town offers this opportunity to the applicant to facilitate the applicant's process, and time before boards and commissions. This is a recommended step for large projects or new development in town.

For very large projects requiring Town Meeting approval, the Town's Economic Development Advisory Committee provides zoning and permitting recommendations to the Board of Selectmen.

Eligible commercial expansion accompanied by job growth may be eligible for tax increment financing which provides tax credits for new development.

We are available to assist and guide business in through the permit process. We encourage you to contact the office.
