The Old Burying Ground is Lexington's oldest cemetery, with graves dating back to 1690. We have maps and lists of the graves from several different periods, as well as a book of the epitaphs, which was compiled in 1905. But none of these sources agree on the exact number or placement of graves.
A local Boy Scout decided, in 2014, to remedy that problem. For his Eagle Scout project, he led a group of Scouts who photographed and geo-located every one of the hundreds of gravestones as well as every monument and tomb in the Old Burying Ground.
Our GIS administrator took all of this information and made an updated, annotated map, which is available online or at the Cemetery Department office at 520 Bedford Street in Lexington.
