Food

The Lexington Public Health Department strives to protect the general health of the public by encouraging safe food handling under 105 CMR 590 and the FDA Food Code 2013. The Lexington Public Health Department aims to raise awareness of food-borne illness by offering guidance and knowledge to help reduce/eliminate adverse health effects.

Several factors are considered to determine food safety. Some are proposed menu, condition of the preparing facility, equipment, and food safety knowledge and handling. Any event that is proposing a menu that includes temperature controlled for safety foods (TCS) or potentially hazardous foods (PHF) such as eggs, meats or any other foods that can pose health risk if not handled correctly are required to meet strict requirements.
