Firearms Application / Renewal Form - this state form should be filled out and brought to the Lexington Police Department
Background Investigation Process
All applicants for LTCs and FIDs undergo a comprehensive background check to determine their suitability and to ensure that they are not statutorily prohibited from having a firearm permit. The background investigation involves:
- fingerprint checks
- checking local/state/federal criminal justice computer databases
- an interview process.
All applicants who lived outside the United States during their adult life are asked to submit documents from those countries showing that they did not commit any crimes outside of the U.S. If they do not have and are unable to obtain those documents a notarized letter attesting that they had not committed any crimes in those countries can be submitted in place of official documents.
