Funding

On March 6, 2006, Lexington voted to adopt the Community Preservation Act. The CPA provides a new funding source for:

  • Acquisition and preservation of open space
  • Creation and support of community housing
  • Acquisition and preservation of historic resources
  • Creation and support of recreational uses

For a more detailed description, see attached chart.

Lexington's Community Preservation Fund derives funding from a 3% surcharge on local real estate taxes and matching funds from the Commonwealth. The Town also adopted provisions which exempt the first $100,000 of home value from the surcharge and grant a total exemption from the surcharge to lower income residents and seniors.
