The Lexington Minuteman is a life-size bronze figure of a colonial farmer with musket by Boston sculptor Henry H. Kitson. It stands at the southeast corner of the Lexington Battle Green, facing the route of the British advance.
The Lexington Community Center, located at 39 Marrett Road, offers classes, meeting rooms and leisure facilities including pool tables, ping pong tables and an exercise room. The Human Services and Recreation & Community Programs Departments are also located here.
Cary Memorial Building contains two auditoriums as well as several meeting rooms. Battin Hall, the larger auditorium, is used for large town meetings as well as performances by both local groups and international artists.
The Battle of Lexington is commemorated every year on the third Monday in April. We pay tribute to those patriots who first fell on the Lexington Green on the morning of April 19, 1775, and to the courage and fortitude of those who continued the fight throughout the day.
Lexington is committed to being a sustainable and resilient community for all. As part of this initiative, Lexington has been steadily adding solar arrays to its municipal facilities for years. Solar saves the town in energy costs and reduces the amount of energy it demands from non-renewable sources.
There are activities for all ages in Lexington, including band concerts, talks by Nobel laureates at the Library, programs at the Community Center and swimming lessons at the pool.
The Recreation & Community Programs Department runs a large number of programs for adults and children throughout the year. They also manage the pools, the Old Res beach and numerous playing fields.
