The Town of Lexington's Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Kate DeAngelis, has been awarded a 30 Under 30 distinction by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) for 2024.

DeAngelis was chosen from over 100 professionals across 26 states to receive this year's award.

Melissa Battite, Director of Recreation and Community Programs, nominated DeAngelis for the award.

"I'm still in disbelief that I was awarded for doing something that I love and doing my job," said DeAngelis. "I don't even have the words to describe how lucky and grateful I feel to be on the list of professionals who are changing the field."

DeAngelis joined the Town in 2019 in a part-time role, before becoming Lexington's first Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in 2020.

“Kate has contributed so much to Lexington and beyond in her short time as a CTRS. I chose to nominate Kate to recognize both her accomplishments in Lexington in addition to highlighting her roles on local, state, regional, and national levels,” said Melissa Battite, Director of Recreation and Community Programs. “Celebrating our successes is an important component of our work that keeps us all motivated to strive to be our best. Lexington is very fortunate to have such a driven, young professional leading the way for all things inclusive and adaptive.”
